Hello all. Winter has taken hold hard here in Illinois now, with night time temperatures dropping down to just 1F that is -17C. I am already getting withdrawal symptoms , and winter has hardly started. O'well must look forward to opening day at Braidwood cooling lake, in March. Trevor

Not quite as cold as that here but pretty depressing.
Fished a match a couple of weeks ago on a lake at the start of current freeze. Me and my mate helped break ice in a couple of pegs and luckily for us it was the two we drew.
My peg was next to a bridge and the only place I could get bites was under the bridge.
Finished second with 10lb of small carp on double pinkie. 11lb won and only 4 weighed in. Lake kept freezing as day went on.
Booked in for following week and was disappointed to find no one else there and ice even thicker than previous week so I went home.
50 mile round trip for nothing. To make matters worse, I had put my bait tin of pinkies on the dash board over an air vent to get a bit of life in to them. Halfway home I noticed that quite a few had got too lively and were escaping. Rounded most up but I'm sure a few of the early escapees found their way down in to the air vents. That will be fun in a few weeks.
Didn't even think about going on Sunday. Ice is now about 8" thick and it looks like next weekend will be just as bad, if not worse.
I reckon it will be January before we get any respite.

We hit our coldest night of the winter so far last night, with the temperature dropping to just under -20C.
I took a quick look at my fish, in my pond this morning, they are hardly moving. Probably just as well I turned on the floating pond heater last weekend, at least that keeps a hole in the ice.

Hey everyone, sorry for the absence. Has been a little cooler down here in Texas, but not that cold. Have been couped up alot since enforced retirement. as a stupid c-- driving a car while using a cell phone, knocked me of my bike and broke several bones in my hand. As a result I did not get to use my new middy 12.5m pole until this last Tuesday. The regulars at the lake near my house are use to seeing me with a 8m pole but 12.5m certainly turned some heads. The COMPULSION is working well in my ground bait. 35 'gils for about 9.5 lb, including one of 1.25 lb, a real fighter ! Heading to the UK next week, was hoping to do some chub fishing on the river Ivel, but a chat with my brother this morning and he said most of the river and the Great ouse are frozen ! Oh well ! Ian

Sorry to hear about you accident Ian, perhaps one day people here will use cars as cars and not armchairs, as they seem to do.
