n hooked six carp and landed two, A 13 lb and a 9 lb fish. I lost a big teen on his pole while showing him how to fish on a river ( the elastic was not tight enough) , I then lost a good 20 on my carp rig which snagged me under a fallen tree close to my feet, Trevor, I see what you meant about HANGING ON when you hook a carp on the pole, a real rush ! The only down side was while we were packing up , the bag with my supply of B got a hole in it and was gone, only about 2 teaspoons left. I WAS GUTTED ! I was really pleased for Ryan as he had never caught anything bigger than about a pound and a half before, all he is talking about is what to do to get ALL the carp out he hooks.

There are tricks to landing big carp on the pole. No. 1 do not lift the pole up in the air until the end of the fight. Try and keep the tip over the top of the fish if possible. The harder you pull one way the harder the fish pulls in the opposite direction. If you can keep the tip of the pole over their head they just go deep. If you do start to lose control, quickly dip the tip of the pole under the water. Then wait until the tension decreases, at this point the fish will be back under the tip of you pole. You can then continue to play the fish out. When bringing in a big fish, if possible I do not like to break down the pole too quickly, just incase the fish makes a dart for it again. What I like to do is rest the butt of my pole back on my roller and wait until I am ready to break down to the last couple of sections for landing the fish. This way you can very quickly re-ship the pole back out if required.
Hope this helps Trevor

Thanks Trevor, at the rate I am going, these Texas carp are going to make me look bloody silly. I assume the compulsion from Whacker baits is just as good as the original B ? I cannot envisage fishing without B. I hope to be getting out fishing a whole lot more this season, I am being laid off in July and will get a sufficiently lucrative severance, thus will be able to have a nice holiday !!!!

Hi Ian. The wacker baits compulsion contains raw B. in it. Can I ask what make and number of elastic and line etc you are using? Are you using a carp pole or a modified match pole? Sometimes actually stepping down to slightly light elastics will land more big fish, but I would not recommend this if fishing were there are a lot of snags. Sorry to here you are losing your job, but great if it means more fishing and being able to pay bills etc all at the same time. Do some fishing for me!!!

Hi Ian The WB Compulsion is a very nice product - 50% B by weight, with a number of complementary ingredients added to give it a nice 'rounded' sweet smell / taste. Anyway, because it is only half as strong as the neat stuff, you basically need to use twice as much as you have been with neat 'B'. I've put together a user guide for the product, available as a free download from the site: www.biosourcebaits.com/Biosource%20recipes%20and%20suggested%20dosages%20COMPULSION.pdf All the best, Pat

Hi Trevor and Pat, Trevor, My son was using his 7 meter steadfast 2XL pole, fitted with a Middy universal long power top two kit, with Middy red 14-16 elastic. After I* lost the first fish I tightened up the elastic on the winder bung. He was able to get two of his next five carp out. The tighter elastic seemed to work. His rig was 6 lb trilene to a 4 lb hook lenght and a kamasan 12 animal hook. The pole with the top kit handled well with the big fish, but after the trip I replaced the red elastic with middy blue 18-20 stuff. Now my son wants another top kit with the red as well ! I think I will beef up the rigs to 8 lb to a 6 lb hook length. The carp down here are not shy !

Pat, Sorry had to end the previous post due to the wife turning up here at work to take me to lunch. Any way thanks for the link, I believe you sent it to me before but I could not find where I had it filed. I am sure the compulsion will work just as well as raw B, But sometimes change is a hard thing, I am going to place an order for the compulsion, but would still like to have some off the original. Can some be purchased fron you or Trevor ? After my next trip I will make sure I have pictures for the gallery to share. My sons two carp were pristine and a good look in the mouth indicated they had never been caught before, no scarring from hooks ! Ian

Hi Ian
I'd recommend giving Compulsion a fair shake - it's just as good as B as far as I can tell. If you really don't like it I can send you a small 'top up' FOC - I unfortunately can't start selling B on the side, as we have an exclusive contract with WB with regarding to them selling B treated retail products in the USA.

Pat, I must apologies, I had not considered any contract issues with Whacker, I certainly do not want to be the cause of any problems for you and Trevor. I am ordering some compulsion today, It may be good to have some one on the forum using it and comparing results against the original ? Ian

Hi Ian
Not a problem - one of the side effects / added complications of starting a business I supose... Definitely be interested to see if you see any differences between B and Compulsion - please be sure to keep us posted on that.
Cheers and all the best,
Pat

Hi Ian
Sorry to take so long in getting back to you. My computer at home took yet another dive, and I have just got it back up and running yesterday.
The heavier line is a good way to go. I use silly strengths at times 4.5kg main with 3.75kg hook length. As long as it is a high quality line I am sure is does not effect the bites to any noticable degree. You are fishing with similar elastics to myself. I have been using the fox 14 -18 for quite sometime now for the bigger fish, but i keep it so that it just returns into the pole.

Thanks Trevor, my turn to sat sorry for a delayed reply. I ordered some compulsion yesterday, I asked what the extra ingredients were and all he would say was " it is additives we put in our groundbaits", he may have said something else but I did not catch what it was. Ian
